EU-Japan Regional

Cooperation Helpdesk

In October 2020, CEEJA was selected for the second consecutive year, with its new partner CLAIR, to manage the continuity of the Europe-Japan regional cooperation platform, the "EU-Japan Regional Cooperation Helpdesk" (EJRC Helpdesk). Its historical partners, the Japanese departments of Iwate and Gifu, remained members of the consortium as senior advisors.

With this choice, the Center for EU-Japan Industrial Cooperation once again recognizes CEEJA as a key player in the acceleration of regional cooperation between Europe and Japan, and in particular that of clusters.

The role of CEEJA and its Japanese partners, within this platform, is to develop all forms of cooperation (industry, trade, research & innovation, tourism, mobility) between European regions/clusters and Japanese prefectures/clusters. In addition, going beyond the framework of simple bilateral relations, the members of the platform are invited and helped to create synergies with third regions in Africa, South-East Asia or even Eastern Europe. The CEEJA is then responsible for promoting meetings between European, Japanese and third-country actors, and for informing and guiding them in their efforts, ensuring that they take cultural specificities into account.

Since 2019, the CEEJA has thus enabled the Grand Est Region and Alsace to become the gateway to Europe for regional cooperation with Japan. This new platform is financially supported by the European Commission.

In 2020, the EJRC Helpdesk launched a series of webinars focusing on good practices in regional cooperation between Europe and Japan. These seminars, translated simultaneously into English and Japanese, aim to highlight good practices of cooperation between clusters, European regions and Japanese departments, and therefore to help create new cooperation or strengthen existing ones.
